Good to Know
- Gas fireplaces and gas fire features run October through March and are switched off April through September
- Trash is collected daily. Please bag and tie everything and place it in the bear-proof bin with the lid secured — loose trash cannot be collected. There is no recycling service in the area
- In winter, deck cushions are stored in bins. You are welcome to use them — please return them to the bins so they do not blow away
- 4WD or AWD is required in winter. Puncheon Fork Road is plowed and salted when temperatures drop below 20°F
Frequently Asked Questions
Is propane provided for the grill, or do we bring it?
Nothing to bring. The grill is connected directly to the home’s gas line, so there is no tank to swap out.
Is there a Blackstone griddle?
No. The Blackstone was removed because it was too difficult to keep clean. The house has the propane gas grill described above.
How many cars can we park?
The driveway holds three cars. If your group has more, there is a large parking lot at the top of the hill.
Can we get to the Appalachian Trail from the cabin?
Yes, but you will need to drive to the trailhead rather than walk. Big Bald and Sam’s Gap are both close by.
Is the cabin inside the Wolf Laurel gated community, and can we use the trails?
The cabin is not inside the gated community, but you can still reach the trails. Tell the security gate you are heading to Smoke and Timber or to Hatley Pointe Ski Resort, park there, and the trails start from that point.
Are there pickleball courts?
Not at the cabin. There is plenty else nearby though, including hiking trails and ziplining.
How far is Asheville?
Between 35 and 50 minutes, depending on which part of the city you are heading to. North Asheville is the closer end, South Asheville the further. Allow longer in snow.
What is the nearest airport?
Asheville Regional Airport.
What toiletries are provided?
Shampoo, conditioner and body wash. We do not stock extras such as spare toothbrushes, so bring those with you.
